Paul DiNenna, Jr.
I am the founding attorney at DiNenna & Associates. I established this office in 2004 and have practiced family law in Spokane County as well as the surrounding counties in Eastern Washington consistently since then.
I obtained my juris doctorate from the Gonzaga University School of Law in 2003 and obtained my undergraduate degree from Bucknell University in 1995. I am a member of the Family Law Executive Committee, Washington State Bar Association, and am currently serving a two year term. I am also a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Spokane County Bar Association, as well as a member of the Family Law Section of the Spokane County Bar.
I practice family law because the issues call to me. I know of no other area of law as challenging or as important as advocating for and defending the integrity of family, which the Washington State Supreme Court described (and affirmed by the United States Supreme Court in Troxel v. Granville, 530 U.S. 57 (2000)) as, “the core element upon which modern civilization is founded.” In re Custody of Smith, 137, Wn.2d 1, 15, 969 P.2d 21 (1998) certiorari granted 527 U.S. 1069 (1999).
I believe that the law is intended to be a service to those in need. I am committed to my clients, am adamant about protecting them and their children from any and all unfair treatment, and am satisfied only when my clients are happy with the results I have helped obtain for them in all family law matters.
I am a compassionate advocate for youth and adults accused of crimes, and for those whose rights have been violated. For 15 years I worked as a public defender in Spokane County, Washington, representing adults and children, but specializing in juvenile criminal defense cases. I have represented youth aged 8 to 18 years old that have been charged in a variety of cases such as Minor in Possession, Theft or a Motor Vehicle, sex offenses and Murder. While representing these youth I was able to learn that the criminal case that I was representing them on, was often not the only legal issue in their lives that they needed help with. These youth also needed support and assistance in education, mental health, drug/alcohol use and civil rights areas as well.
The ability to provide youth a holistic and comprehensive representation is what prompted me to move into private practice.Working with DiNenna & Associates, I am able to provide thorough and thoughtful representation to youth in order to prevent negative impacts on their lives.DiNenna & Associates is a firm that cares about youth and their families and a place where I am able to provide holistic criminal defense and civil legal services to those in our community.
I earned my Bachelors Degree in political science and art history from Whitworth College and earned my Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University School of Law. Go Zags! I often volunteer my time to assist juveniles with sealing their records and as an Every Student Counts Alliance member, I collaborate with community members and advocates for the elimination of the school to prison pipeline in Spokane public schools. I am a board member with Washington state organization TeamChild. I also serve as a Spokane Superior Court Pro Tem Commissioner.
I am a graduate of the University of Washington (Go Huskies!) and the Washington State Bar Association Rule 6 Law Clerk Program. Prior to obtaining my license to practice law, I was a paralegal for 13 years where my passion for the law grew. I decided to pursue a legal career due to my desire to help others during their greatest times of need. I have now been practicing law for over 15 years.
My legal career has focused primarily on family law and criminal defense work – the two areas of law I feel are the most challenging and important; protecting fundamental and constitutional rights.
Prior to coming to DiNenna & Associates, I was in public defense work for over 13 years. However, when the position became available at DiNenna & Associates, I knew it was where I belonged. I am very compassionate about my clients and I strive to obtain the best possible outcome for them.
In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors, gardening, working on home projects, reading, movies, and spending time with family and friends (including the dog!). I am a huge sports fan and I look forward to March Madness in the Spring and college football in the Fall.
I am a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Spokane County Bar Association, and former Washington State Bar Association Law Clerk Program Board Member and Liaison.
In August 2013, I joined the U.S. Marine Corps. In January 2014, I attended the Legal Services Specialist Course at the Naval Justice School, Newport, RI. It was there that I began my career in the legal field.
Upon completion of school, I served as a Marine Corps Paralegal and Non-commissioned Officer In-Charge for the Staff Judge Advocate to the Commanding General. Our office was responsible for providing ethics opinions on civil matters and legal advice on military and civil misconduct. We supervised and ensured all service members, military family members and retirees received proper legal assistance when dealing with civil and criminal issues.
In April 2018, I honorably left the Marine Corps. My wife and I decided we wanted to venture off before returning to our home city of Portland, OR. Since our arrival in eastern Washington we have fallen in love with the area and are planning to stay longer than anticipated.
Having future intentions of attending law school and continuing my service helping those people in need I decided to work in an area I was unfamiliar with. I have been a part of the team here at DiNenna & Associates for 2 years now and enjoy helping our clients get a fair and just outcome in all matters of family law.
I graduated in June of 2020 from Spokane Community College with my AAS and my Associate Degree in Professional Technical. I also have a Certificate in Communication and Technology.
I have a passion for the law and am currently pursuing my certificate for LLLT (Limited License Legal Technician).
In my off time, when I am not studying, I spend as much time with friends and family as I can. I also enjoy cooking and reading.
